Over the next three years, Canada will be welcoming nearly one million immigrants according to the multi-year strategy tabled by the Liberal Government. Under this plan, 310,000 new permanent residents will settle in Canada in 2018. The target will be increased to 330,000 newcomers in 2019 and approximately 340,000 in 2020.
In next three years, most of the newcomers will be admitted through the economic programs. An estimated quarter million newcomers will arrive through the federal economic programs that are managed under the Express Entry. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), has made it clear that the Express Entry is one of the main drivers of economic immigration to Canada as there have been more Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued this year than over the last two previous years combined.
Approximately 184,000 economic migrants will also be welcomed with their accompanying family members through the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). This program allows individuals to be nominated by either the province or territory based on their ability to settle into the provincial labour market.
Canada also plans to reunite approximately 265,000 spouses, common-law partners, dependent children, parents, and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents through the Family Class programs.
