Lost PR Card
Has your permanent resident card been lost or stolen?
Before you travel outside of Canada you must have a valid PR card or permanent resident travel document to return to ports of entry otherwise you will not be able to enter Canada.
Should your permanent resident card be lost, stolen or destroyed while outside of the country you will need to apply immediately for a permanent resident travel document at the nearest Visa office. If you are in Canada and your card is lost or stolen you will need to fill out an application to replace your current card.
At Preszler Law, our immigration team understands how stressful dealing with a lost or stolen permanent resident card can be. Failing to follow the guidelines can prevent you from being able to return to the country and in some cases, even revoke your permanent residence status. Our skilled legal team can assist you with your application should your permanent resident card need to be replaced quickly. It can take several weeks for your resident card to be processed especially if Canada Immigration investigates the reasons behind your lost or stolen card. Seeking legal support can help you avoid delays and extra costs should any mishandling occur.
Before you travel, make sure your PR card is still valid when you return from your trip, and ensure you apply for a new PR card when your current card expires.
